I'm currently mad at Mountain Telephone, but I don't think there's anything that can be done about it. I had my internet connected 3 years ago, they had to send a crew out because the home I purchased had never had service with them and they had to run cables from the poll, install hardware and that sort of thing. All that went fine and I never had any problems with my service. Then, this year (2023) I purchased a new gaming device, but when using it I noticed the internet was extremely slow. At first I thought it was the device and I kept trying to fix it, but when nothing worked I started looking at my other devices. Phones, tablets, Xboxes, everything was extremely slow, I have their package that offers 300-500 Megabits per second, but I was only getting 10 Megabits per second, that's only 3% of the 300 range 2% of the 500 mark. I called customer service and the agent I spoke with told me that the hardware they installed 3 years ago was only capable of 100 Megabits per second, that they had recently received new hardware, and I needed to have the box outside my home replaced with a new one. After they performed the upgrade I finally got the 500 Megabits per second I had been paying for. And here is where my rage kicked in. Once I called customer service I realized that for YEARS they were charging me and leeching money from me for an internet speed they KNEW they couldn't provide. This company let me choose an internet package with a speed of 300-500 Megabits and the hardware they installed at my home was only capable of a max of 100 Megabits. Mountain Telephone is the only internet service provider here and I'm afraid to complain because if they refuse to give me internet service I can't call Suddenlink or AT&T or anybody else, Mountain Telephone is a co-op and because of that no other provider is legally allowed to offer service in their coverage area, they have a local monopoly.

I am very well pleased with Mountain Telephone and the services offered. I have lived in this rural area for 50 years and have been a paying customer for nearly 30 of those. There’s been many changes in this industry and Mountain Rural has always been up to date and has provided excellent service. The services offered are very affordable, the internet service is unprecedented. Many who are moving into this area from other states are impressed with the internet service in such a rural area. Our 3 children have used the internet for homeschool courses, college courses along with my husband who taught college courses from home during the challenges of covid. Recently, my husband, Aaron, opened a mechanic business next to our home and is dependent upon the internet for ordering parts, continuing education, and WiFi phone service to speak with customers. The technicians are prompt, professional and knowledgeable. I have no complaints and feel that 5 stars are well earned.

Paid a deposit to get internet a month go and still they haven't hooked up my internet we have called them several times and they still haven't been out .. they wanted our money upfront first then they wait forever to hook u up. Not right . I will not pay deposit anywhere else or and for another company again wo a pr ok mise to deliver the service or goods

Employees are friendly and professional. There’s usually no wait in the lobby. Place is clean. BUT…….
Their service is very expensive. They charge a call to the next town as a long distance call. Other phone companies would consider that same call or any other call within the state of KY a local call. I have been charged over $5 for a single call to the next town over!!
Their tv service fees stay around $80 for a mediocre, no premium channels.
If you want a decent package, you’re looking at paying over $100!! If you want internet, you MUST pay for home phone service even if you don’t want it or need it!!!
Not recommended at all!!

At this point, I have made 5 phone calls for internet install. We recently bought our house but do not live in it yet. I have been here all week cleaning and thought it would be a great time to at least get internet. Jokes on me, they gave never returned my call to schedule an install. For the amount they charge, one would think they would be eager to install.

Although I've found the staff ( Office) "friendly enough", field staff are great to work with in locating where I'd need my install.
Finally..you can have "Internet Only".. available but..it is quite high $, compared to other "Co-Op's, in KY.
Going through this pandemic (as all in this world have), I have NOT.. found where Mt. Telephone is on ANY LIST... of carriers to "Keep America Connected " !

This was setup for us, consumers, to be able to stay connected for: Tele-Health, Students etc.. by the US government as we, consumers, have, most times found our health care providers to continue serve/administrator health care without traveling, mixing or otherwise have exposure at their locations.

I've tried to find out if ( or why not) Mt. Telephone has not participated in this as they would receive monies for consumers to be continued with Zoom, or whichever a provider would use, keeping ourselves with less contact !?
Every site I've looked does NOT..include this company as a participant ! Maybe.. They're not aware but this definitely something every Internet provider SHOULD BE DOING !
How long we're in this, none of us know. This "Co-Operitve certainly needs to do this, helping our most vulnerable to keep down possible infection.
The amount of funds provided each participant is sufficient, the obstacles for us, consumers.. would be lessened in these precarious times !
Gotta say: we pay dearly for these, the "return-$$".. must be more for Mt. Telephone for them than to allow themselves "help".. us, the consumers/Students/Healthcare !
Most of the employees seem to try their best. Maybe.. Mt. Telephone ( Administrators/board.. etc) should try every effort in this pandemic than the bottom dollar !
This will, one day, pass. If you ( Mt. Telephone) have not or will not participate, keep your green light bulbs, we don't/won't need them !
