One of the best kept secrets in Iowa! Betty the receptionist was truly vested in her job as the hostess! She made us feel so welcomed, but she was also humbly proud of this amazing center. The whole center was masterfully planned and not a penny spared in the presentation and design. Sometimes, museums can put visitors In information overload, but this center hit great historical highlights while making it relevant to the every day person. Ross was walking by and asked us if we had any questions. The next thing you know we are getting a behind the scene look in the restoration shop! The word passion describes everything about this place and the people who have committed clearly millions of dollars and hours to making sure earthmovers and those who design, manufacture and operate them get credit for their contributions to changing the earth!

This was a magnificently designed museum. My husband was impressed with the display of machines as well as the ones out back. The woman that greeted us and showed us around was very friendly and knowledgeable. I highly recommend it to anyone interested in earth moving machinery.

Today we (the family) took a road trip to Elkader to visit the Earthmoving Legacy Center. Until recently, I never knew it existed, but running heavy equipment in and after high school (all Caterpillar) for Wendling Quarries, I had a connection to it's history. I will say this, the Moyna family and all involved in curating this museum and all it's contents go ABOVE AND BEYOND to make it a welcoming, affordable, and informative place to visit. I called earlier this week inquiring about a visit this Saturday and the lady was very pleasant to talk to.

When we arrived, today, there were a few people there but it was very clean, well organized, and strategically put together for timeline displays. COUNTLESS dozens, graders scrapers, loaders, and even a few trucks were well displayed and we even talked to Ross Kurth, museum director. We spent several hours wandering around and we didn't even get to see all the outdoor displays and the "boneyard" but we all had a ball. There was even a dozer cab for the kids to sit in and play. There will be a big show up there September 12-14th, 2025, for the Century of Caterpillar event. If you haven't been here, go...it ain't far away and it's local history that doesn't cost much to see...it was $30 for me, my wife and all 3 kids.

Needs a better sign to telling people driving by its a museum and needs a gift shop. Other than that it was an awesome stop. Gained knowledge that I had no idea about with equipment. A new found appreciation. Definitely may return and recommend to friends and family.

Great display of older heavy construction equipment.
Very good documentation of the heavy equipment on display. The facility housing the equipment is very nice.
Family members that didn’t think they would be interested in touring the construction equipment displays throughly enjoyed the displays and information.

Seen just by chance driving by. This museum is very well done. Tour guide Bonnie was very nice and knowledgeable, she made it interesting. Would like to see more kids interactive activities and a gift shop as I believe it would pull in families or younger visitors .
